2. 空所補充問題
Many people decide to ------ new hobbies, such as fishing or gardening, when they retire.
(A) take up (B) take away (C) take over (D) take out

4. 空所補充問題
The fact that someone is strongly convinced of an idea does not ------ mean that the idea is correct.
(A) in always (B) forever (C) of ever (D) necessarily

IV. Jokes
a. Looking for family tree information, my husband and I were walking through our hometown cemetery. My husband and I were discussing the number of children who had died in the early 20th century. We discussed the probability of the different causes such as the flu epidemic, other illnesses or accidents. Our four-year-old son, Jarod, was apparently listening because as we passed one headstone with a beautiful picture of the Last Supper engraved on it, he stopped.
He studied the picture for a few moments, then looked up at us.
"I know how this person died," Jarod said.
"How?" we asked. "In a restaurant," he replied.

b. Keegan, my five-year-old son, was telling me a story from the back seat of our car as I was struggling to hear the news on the radio. As I sometimes do when he finishes talking, I said, "Yep, OK," without really having heard what he said. But that was, apparently, the wrong answer.
"Daddy, you have to turn your ears on!" Keegan shouted at me, "I'm trying to tell you something."

c. After being sent to his room for misbehaving, my five-year-old son, Gavin, declared loudly, "I hate everyone in this house!"
This was followed by a pause before he added, "Except me."

d. My cousin Cindy was preparing food for a family gathering. Her three-year-old son Chris watched intently as his mother stabbed repeatedly at a large pickle in a jar before she managed to spear it. As she added it to the relish tray, Chris asked, "Is it dead yet, Mummy?"

e. Because of an eye problem, I was having some trouble reading, so I turned to my six-year-old granddaughter to help me read a recipe.
"Chelsey," I asked, "Can you please read this word for me?"
"Oh, Grandma," she replied, "it's easy. You just have to sound it out."

f. My husband and I were dining out with our children one evening. Our four-year-old son caught the eye of a woman at the next table who smiled at him, and he smiled back.
When she got up to leave, we encouraged Loe to say goodbye. She leaned over and said with a smile, "Good night, young man."
Joe looked up at her, with an equally big smile, and said, "Good night, old lady."
